Session 3: The Cave

Having survived the Nothic, Malzeer and Keleth set about exploring the cavern behind the waterfall. Over the course of an hour they found that a gnome named Flilen had sequestered himself within the cavern at some point in the recent past, and had been "on the verge of a major discovery" if his journal was to be believed.

They also arranged several objects in a specific order to unlock a puzzle room and obtained a small treasure hoard. Keleth quaffed down a water breathing potion, and began exploring a narrow chute of water. Malzeer stayed behind in the main cavern when he heard a commotion fast approaching from the direction of the log cabin.

Session 2: A Handful of Dirt

Weeks had passed since school began. Keleth had excelled at his studies, much to Enelle's chagrin. Malzeer had dutifully performed dock work for the Aaron with the Thieves Guild. A night before the session, Malzeer had his first opportunity to run deliveries. He did well, until his final delivery got him caught by some rookie town guards who he ambushed and sunk in the town's river. Malzeer was a bit out of sorts during the session, as he reflected on his being a murderer.

Keleth was studying in the library when he received a missive urging him to come to Archmage Vel's office. There he received a quest to find a missing teacher named Arelen and return to Vel with a handful of dirt from wherever she was found.

Session 1: First Day of School

Keleth Loremaer awoke bright-eyed from his trance with a jolt. Today was the first day of school! He and his brother Malzeer had been sent from their home in Cramora to the neighboring country of Hatun to join the ranks of the prestigious magical academy. Keleth had passed the entrance exam with flying colors, though Malzeer  somehow missed the mark. Never one to accept failure, Malzeer assured Keleth this was only a temporary setback and he'd be accepted into the academy "before you know it!"

Malzeer Loremaer had been awake for an hour, but hadn't yet willed himself out of bed. Today was the first day of school, and he was going to miss it. Hearing Keleth begin his day in the other room, Malz turned under the sheets and groaned. The evening he'd received his rejection verdict was the lowest he'd ever felt, and he was still recovering. That night he'd gone to a dark place - and not just within himself. He made a pact with a mysterious powerful entity that promised him power enough to correct his shortcomings.

Session 0: Prelude

Snow fell in harsh flurries. Four hooves crushed the growing layer of powder upon the road. Ullar was barely able to see ahead of him through the blizzard, but he knew he was close to his destination. The frigid air, scented with pine, stung his nostrils, and his breath was as labored as his horse's. Quill, a small winged quasit, shifted uncomfortably within Ullar's tunic.

"How much will you tell them when we arrive?" the familiar asked his master telepathically.

"As little as possible, but as much as necessary to stop the true threat."
